The Run to Home Base supports our nation’s Veterans, Service Members, and Families and helps raise much needed funds for Home Base.
This unique 9K run or 5K walk or run goes through the city of Boston and ends with a once-in-a-lifetime experience of finishing the race by crossing Fenway’s famed home plate. Friends and family watch participants from the stands at Fenway, with food, entertainment and fun family activities in the concourses of America’s Most Beloved Ballpark. The run honors heroic veterans and helps raise much needed funds for Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program.
One in three Veterans return with an invisible wound of service such as post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, depression, anxiety, co-occurring substance use disorder, or military sexual trauma. These invisible wounds are complex, individualized and extraordinarily challenging for all those affected. Families of veterans affected often need support as they seek ways to better understand and support their loved one. Many veterans also struggle with the stigma associated with these injuries and may be reluctant to seek care. For many years, Home Base has served as a beacon of hope to these veterans and their families, providing treatment and innovative wellness programs at no cost to the patient. Services such as community and clinical education and research are also provided free of charge.
